Australian company lands $12M to print batteries on solar panels

Because solar energy benefits the environment and reduces electricity costs, many consumers are already keen to invest in the technology. The issue is, the cost of installing solar panels remains high — even if prices for the technology are plummeting in the Middle East. This issue may no longer persist in the future, as the Australian company Printed Energy is on a mission to print out ultra-thin, flexible screen-printed batteries, which can then be applied on top of super-thin flexible screen-printed...

New interactive periodic table shows how each element influences daily life

How do gallium and tantalum influence your daily life? Quite a bit, it turns out - gallium is a component of light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, while tantalum can be found in mobile phones. Boeing software engineer Keith Enevoldsen designed the interactive Periodic Table of the Elements, in Pictures and Words to show just how much those seemingly-obscure elements on the periodic table play a role in our lives.

These ancient societies know the secrets of infinite growth on our finite planet

Once upon a time, there were three scientists––a biologist, an engineer, and a chemist. Each of them loved the ocean, and liked nothing better than to walk its shores and study it’s inhabitants. They were curious and observant, and by watching how nature really works, with an open-mind, each of them stumbled on something radically new. We can do the same!

Australian Jay Harman was a surfer. He grew up at the beach, playing in the waves and seeking shells. He was fascinated by the...

Nearly 40 percent of households there are below the poverty level, according to the Chicago Tribune. But the $30 million facility, The Hatchery, could create 150 jobs in its first year, and in five years offer 900 jobs. The organization expects to break ground on the facility later this year.
